Scarecrow Festival Raises £600  

for Rochdale Moorland Children's Home

At the start of October, residents made and displayed over 100 scarecrows in the village as the festival returned for a third year.

Visitors came from all over the North West to see the displays, which included an eight-foot chicken, a life-sized horse, Pennywise the clown from Stephen King’s IT, Spongebob Squarepants, an Only Fools and Horses display and even artist Vincent van Gogh.

This year’s winner was the ‘Tyranno-Straw-Rus Rex’ on Wardle Fold, which received 647 votes on the Wardle Scarecrow Festival Facebook page.

Following closely in second place was ‘Alfredo and his drunken driver’ at Hogan’s Farm, with 641 votes.


Wardle History

Crossfield Mill, Wardle. Built 1834

In 1871, Simeon, John & William Bamford employed 88 people when it was operated as a flannel manufacturing business.

In 1910 the Crossfield Manufacturing Company ran by were weaving plain and twill cotton on 32 looms.

It is believe the Mill was shared at that time as records show Edward & Henry Leach operating at the same time weaving flannels.

Wardle Bowling Club Community Coffee Morning

Wardle Conservative Club

Tickets @ £25 each will be going fast, so come along to the Club asap to purchase them from behind the Bar – it will most certainly be a sell-out, and will be strictly ‘Tickets Only’ on the night.
